On June 12, 2012 Mayor Lucy showed herself to be a true friend to animals. In a meeting also attended by the top officials of Ecologogía, both Adopciones de Amigos and Amigos de Animales presented a plan for an Animal Education Center, to be eventually built at the Community Center at Las Cuevitas on Calzada de Estación, now a work in progress.
Actual construction for the new Municipal Pound itself, which will be located behind the Presidencia, has not yet begun, although the plans have been officially approved and the cornerstone has been laid. Patience certainly is the operative word here!
There was already space allotted in the Las Cuevitas plans for the Amigos de Animales sterilization and low cost medical clinic. Now this space has officially been expanded to also accommodate cages for adoptable dogs from the Pound and an area for animal instruction and animal related entertainment The center will be called the Luz Maria Nuñez Flores Animal Education Center, and we thank the President for this opportunity to benefit the Community and the City.
