The mission of Amigos de Animales is to help curb the overpopulation of companion animals in San Miguel de Allende, thereby helping to eliminate the fear, pain, suffering and misery of homeless animals in the Center and the outlying areas.
- Curbing overpopulation via the spaying and neutering of pets whose owners can afford to pay little or nothing. We exist as a service to the Mexican community.
- Working with the San Miguel Municipality to end the suffering of street animals and lost pets.
Amigos recognizes the value of animals and is committed to serve them because they lack the ability to speak for or defend themselves in the face of abuse, abandonment and neglect.
Amigos was incorporated as a “not-for-profit” Mexican association in October 2001 and started operations in February 2002. By the end of 2018 Amigos has spayed and neutered 21,343 companion animals.
The organization is governed by a Board of Directors and Officers and is helped by volunteers, all of whom work without compensation.
